The ICC has punished Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka player Asitha Fernando 25 per cent of their match fees after a tense exchange on the field. The incident occurred on 24 August 2026 during the Test match in Colombo. During the fixture, Jaiswal struck Fernando with his head while playing on the field, leading to sanctions from match officials. Both Cricinfo and the ICC confirmed the sanction issued to the players for poor conduct.
Following the ruling, Jaiswal accepted the fine but maintained his position. He stated that he did the right thing during the heated moment. Speaking to Indulge Express, he insisted that India would continue to compete fiercely in their following games despite the recent incident.
